It had taken her over two hours to be ready this morning, as her fringe just would not sit the way she wanted it. After straightening, product, more straightening, backcombing and finally a cold blowdry, her fringe now sat perfectly side swept, with just a little flick at the ends, the rest of her hair trailing down in lightly curled tendrils. Today's makeup was less than usual, simple dark eyes, pale skin, and her signature cherry-lips. Stone-washed skinny jeans, and a tight Iron Maiden shirt completed her toned down outfit. Not to mention, on this unusual day, flats, in bright pink and white. Red heart shaped glasses framed her face and she strolled from her dorm in the direction of the Barns, followed closely by her little black Poodle.

Ugh, dorms. Had she known she was going to have to share a room, she'd have point-blank refused to come. Brynn did not do sharing. And with two other girls? No, thank you. Regardless of how lavish the rooms were, one's room should be one's room, and one's room only. She missed her room, with all her stuff... her fish, her art supplies, her bed... her huge four-post bed, with the pink curtains and carved antique wood.

It didn't take her long with such legs to reach the barn, and it was only the realization that she had reach her destination that slowed her walk and dispelled her negative thoughts. She still hadn't gotten over how amazing the barn was, pleased with Soli's quarters. Atleast her horse didn't have to share. As usual, the mare was happy to greet her person, sniffing at Brynn's outstretched hand for the sugar cube she'd fished from her pocket. "Missing home Soli?" Fingers stretched to carefully scratch at her forehead, laughing softly as she felt Delilah's paws pressed into her leg, "Deli, stop being such a baby, I still love you too." Truthfully, Soli and Deli were probably the only living creatures she loved more than herself, and certainly the only living creatures who saw through the spoilt brat act to the real girl beneath.

Without much warning, Kyo released a loud yawn, wordlessly expressing his feelings on his early arrival to the barn. In his mind, he was all revved up to ride, but his body just didn't want to move. So, without much surprise, he used the excuse of his horse not being fed as an excuse to simply sit in the chestnut mare's stall as she munched contently on her bermuda hay and alfalfa pellets. Of course many sensible people would take into account the fact that the ground was an extremely dangerous place for a human to be sitting, but the arrogant, narcissistic Kyo thought he was out of harm's way. In fact, that was his view on everything. Like the majority of teenagers, he just didn't think anything bad would happen to him. But, of course, you had to expect that. Especially from Kyo.

Shaking his head slowly, Kyo rose from the shavings, instantly brushing the dirt off of the work jods he wore. He groaned lightly as he bent down to make sure the cuffs of the pants were flipped up to avoid getting dirty and torn; the exact reason why he hated wearing jods. but jods were expected in the discipline he rode in; after all, breeches were a bitch to wear when riding in a cut back saddle, or at least his slippery cut back. Even full seat breeches didn't help much. But, on the contrary, he could ride a complete equitation pattern stirrup-less when wearing his jods. And that was just the way things worked. Kyo sighed audibly as his mare slowly lifted her head to see what he wanted, her ears tilting back as he reached for the leather halter he had brought into the stall. "Sorry, Emily, but you've had enough; time to work." Kyo yawned once more as he gently placed the halter onto the mare's head, clipping the plain, nylon lead to it and led her out of the stall, in the direction of cross ties.

To tell you the truth, Kyo wasn't a fan of cross ties or tying a horse to a pole, especially after seeing at least two horses flip over with cross ties and pull back on a pole. But he didn't hesitate to tie his own horse; no, this wasn't due to his view on being invinsible, instead he just needed to cross tie the horse. First, there wasn't a pole to tie him to and he didn't feel like tacking her up n her stall. After all, this would be his first time riding the mare at Cheval and he wanted to make a good impression, at least with his horse. This was the way he did things; he would always be the perfect gentleman around horses, but if you turned him loose in a school situation, he was simply bad news. But, for the moment, he was set on being pleasant, which was proved with the small grin and a quick word to the pink haired girl he passed on his way to the closest cross ties.

"Hey."

The parts of her arms where they rested on the door were starting to hurt, and with an irritated sigh she realized she now had the grain patterns pressed into her skin. The patterns were rubbed, to no avail, it seemed she'd have to wait for it to fade out, her frantic rubbing had done no more than turn pale skin pink. Ugh. It was such a superficial thing, but to Brynn, it was not far from the world ending.

A not-so-distant voice startled her, removing her attention from her newly acquired skin patterns. Someone else was here? How the heck had she missed that. Quickly she bent down and snatched up Delilah, whom, true to her protective nature, had already started up a growling fit. The Poodle had nipped countless heels in an effort to 'defend' her owner... but like Brynn, she simply got away with it. Brynn cursed herself for forgetting a lead, she'd thought a quick visit to see Solitaire would be fine, but no, some idiot had to come a ruin her time with her horse. The thought of such a place being quite public, and thus frequently frequented by others appeared to have slipped her mind. A quick kiss was planted on Soli's nose, ready to take off, when she turned and - oh no, the owner of the voice was walking his horse this way. Turning Deli's line of sight away from the boy, she managed to avoid the Poodle from seeing him.

There were a few options here, run as fast as she could away from the situation, dump Deli in Solitaire's stall, or just hold on, really, really tight. Option one wasn't even really an option, Brynn would never been seen running, and heck, she's not going to come off like some crazy person. Option two, well, that was an option, she knew the horse and dog would come to no harm together, but she was sure Deli would protest - loudly - something which the other horses in the barn would most likely object to.

Before she could decide between her options, that voice, now the cause of her troubles, sounded again - hay? Isn't that what horses eat? Oh wait... With one hand, sunglasses were pushed up to sit on her head, as she once again, turned around. Chocolate eyes summed him up, worthy of a reply or not... well, he was certainly not too bad on the eyes, maybe he could be worth her time - and worth a grumpy Delilah.

"Hey, yourself."

Kyo released yet another yawn, this one hushed by the cupped hand he covered his mouth with. I really am too tired for this, he thought to himself as he clipper his horse's halter to the cross ties. He patted the mare on the nose before momentarily retreating into the tack room, coming back with his teal hued grooming box, equipped with everything from several pepermints (and a bit more than several empty wrappers) to a roll of latex rubber for wrapping the bits and curb chains of his bridles when he saw the need to. Silently, Kyo picked up a curry comb and began going over the chestnut's coat with it, though his silence didn't last long; before picking up a soft brush, he turned to the pink haired girl, resting his free arm on his horse's hind quarters.

"Cute Arab...and dog"

Kyo's words were said just for the heck of keeping an akward silence away; the last part of his sentence said while he eyed the small dog. In truth, he hated dogs; actually, he was a bit afraid of them (something he'd never share.) Biting his lip a little harder than necessary to keep his nerves under control, Kyo turned back to his horse, thoroughly brushing her down with the soft brush. Yes, he preferred to brush his horse before picking out her feet; that was just the way he had always done things. don't ask him why, because he wouldn't have an answer. It jsut was that way; he did it subconsciously half the time.

Fingers tangled in the Poodle's lamb cut, twisting the curls gently. She could feel Deli's tension practically flowing through her fingers, and briefly she wondered where this hatred for strangers came from. Certainly she hadn't taught it... or had she? Deli was fine on lead... it was just when free that she became a little terror. She could feel air rushing past her as Soli, wanting some attention, huffed, sending black and pink locks billowing.

"Thanks. Your horse is pretty too."

A slight smirk marred her pretty face as bright red lips curved upwards. She could see the slight falter in his eyes, and well, the pause was a dead giveaway. I'm not suprised, she thought to herself, Deli in a mood can be a scary thing. It amused her to see his weakness laid out so plainly in front of her chocolate eyes, content with simply watching him brush his horse - for now. The horse was indeed pretty - stunning even, although she preferred her mare, bias, of course.

"You're scared of Delilah, aren't you?"
Pursed lips and a cocked head, cute, inquisitive, though behind her gaze was a subtler intention - knowledge was a key to power. "Bad experience with dogs before?" Free hand petted the pooch, straying down her spine to itch at her hindquarters.

Kyo simply nodded in thanks; for those who actually knew how he usually acted, his barn behavour was amazing different, not to mention the fact that he was tired (more like half asleep.) Normally, he'd be more than talkative and, with this girl, flirtatious (he found her to be up to his standards.) But now, he was pilite (if that was possible) and careful with what he said. Yes, he was watching his mouth, though the girl's question caught him off guard, bringing him to forget his 'manners' (it wasn't like he had very good manners to ebgin with.)

"Fuck no....I mean, well...uhhhh, not really."

Wasn't it kind of obvious that he was lying? The slight blush rising on his cheeks didn't help matters much, either. Some form of a smirk was brought to his lips at her second question; she had gotten it right on the money. When he was six, one of his friends around the neighborhood dared him to try to ride a stray dog. Yes, it may sound cruel (for the dog, not for him) but the dog was rather large, so he agreed to it. Let's just say the dog didn't take kindly to the light weight boy trying to sit on his back and, after several rabies shots and fifteen stiches in his leg, Kyo developed his fear for dogs. The girl's question brought him to thik it voer, but Kyo decided against sharing it.

"You could say that; I'm more of a cat person, anyway."

Kyo shrugged innocently, tossing the brush back into the grooming box after speaking. Now he moved onto picking out the mare's hooves, set on keeping Emily busy before she tried anything. The mare, though already old enough to behave on cross ties, wasn't exactly trusted by Kyo to do such; yes, he was still worried about her flipping back when tied. And that was exactly what Kyo wanted to avoid; after all, Emily was the only thing in his life he actually looked forward to seeing every day.

She grinned, pushing her sunnies back up as they slipped down, whilst juggling Delilah in her other arm. Thank goodness she hadn't worn heels, falling over would not be very dignified at all. Bending down to remove a stray piece of hay from her shoe, it was on the return to a standing position that she caught his reply. Aha! So she had been right, the boy was afraid of dogs, even if he so vulgarly denied it. The colourful language amused her, he'd so quickly jumped to swearing, that is was plainly obvious.

"Aww, look Deli, you made the stranger blush. I can put her away, if she's bothering you? Soli likes her."

Her voice was gentle, teasing, accompanied by a soft giggle, her words being her way of asking for a name, without a direct question. Inwardly, she could hardly comprehend the idea of being actually afraid of 'man's best friend', especially one as tiny as the Poodle was. She was more fur than flesh, really. It was a simple lack of childhood experiences - Brynn never had true childhood friends.

"Cats? My mother had one of those, Persian. It ate my favourite fish, and I never forgave her for that."

Truthfully, she never had and never would. The cat, aptly named Precious - her mother was good with names, thank goodness her father had named her - had stolen into her room one night, somehow gotten the tank lid open, and fished out her prized Siamese Fighting Fish - a pure white, very rare specimen, and apparently, a very tasty dish for a cat whom ate caviar and lobster.

Kyo sighed inaudibly to himself as the female spoke; yeah, the dog had made him blush...kinda. He wasn't exactly thrilled about their current conversation; not only had the girl figured out his fear (was it that obvious, anyway?) she had also seen him blush; something he was somewhat embarassed about. He just wasn't the kind of guy that blushed often. End of story. And now, after embarassing himself to this extent, he wasn't about to go further and let the girl hide the dog in her horse's stall.

"No, don't worry about it; I'll suck it up."

Kyo bit his lip after speaking, eyeing the dog cautiously before continuing with his words. "Oh, yeah, the name's Kyo," he added, flashing some form of a smirk after introducing himself. The smirk grew into somewhat of a grin when he heard her next words, shrugging innocently in a nonverbal response. "Yeah, they do that sometimes," he said, his tone playfully sarcastic. Kyo had a kitten of his own named Dae and, in his mind, she was the second best thing in his life (after his horse.) He had no idea how someone could pick any sort of a dog over a cat ever. After all, dog are just...well, in his mind, they were not only scary, but also annoying. Kyo could put up with meowing, but barking just pissed him off beyond all belief. He was jsut happy that his roommates didn't have a dog, or else he'd just about die.
